From a young age, Apter showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Apter's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, winning his first competition at the age of six. Apter continued to study with his father until he was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division at the age of ten. At Juilliard, Apter studied with renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. He quickly established himself as a prodigious talent, winning numerous competitions and awards. In 2001, at the age of 16, Apter won the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, becoming the youngest winner in the competition's history. Following his success at the Bachauer Competition, Apter began to receive invitations to perform with major orchestras around the world. He made his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2002, playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was widely praised, with The New York Times calling Apter "a pianist of extraordinary talent and promise." Over the next few years, Apter continued to perform with major orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also began to establish himself as a solo recitalist, performing at major venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. In 2006, Apter released his debut album, featuring works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. The album received critical acclaim, with Gramophone magazine calling Apter "a pianist of exceptional talent and sensitivity." Apter's career continued to flourish in the following years, with highlights including a performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010 and a solo recital at the Salzburg Festival in 2012. In addition to his performing career, Apter is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, and has given masterclasses around the world. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as pianists. Throughout his career, Apter has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to his win at the Bachauer Competition, he has been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. He was also named a Steinway Artist in 2007. Despite his success, Apter remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to practice for several hours a day and is always seeking to improve his playing. In an interview with The Guardian, he said, "I don't think you ever reach a point where you're satisfied with your playing. There's always something more to learn, something more to discover." David Apter is widely regarded as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. His technical prowess, musical sensitivity, and dedication to his craft have earned him a place among the greats of classical music.More....
