The Arabella Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over a decade. The quartet was founded in 2009 by four talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create something unique and special. The founding members of the Arabella Quartet are violinists Anna Lee and Hyun-Ji Kwon, violist Jeong-Hoon Song, and cellist Yeon-Ji Kim. All four members are accomplished musicians who have studied at some of the most prestigious music schools in the world, including the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. The quartet takes its name from the character Arabella, the protagonist of Richard Strauss's opera of the same name. The name was chosen to reflect the quartet's commitment to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of classical music, from the Baroque era to the present day. Since its founding, the Arabella Quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia, earning critical acclaim and numerous awards along the way. One of the highlights of the quartet's early career was their performance at the 2010 Seoul Spring Festival, where they were praised for their "exquisite musicianship and impeccable technique." In 2012, the Arabella Quartet won first prize at the prestigious Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan, cementing their reputation as one of the most talented and promising young ensembles in the world. The quartet's performance of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131 was particularly praised for its "deep emotional resonance and technical brilliance." In addition to their success on the competition circuit, the Arabella Quartet has also been invited to perform at some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Carnegie Hall in New York City. One of the Arabella Quartet's most memorable performances was their 2015 concert at the Salzburg Festival, where they performed a program of works by Mozart, Schubert, and Brahms.
