She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Maria showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Maria's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking lessons with renowned violin teachers in Sweden and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent. At the age of 12, Maria won first prize in the national youth competition for violinists in Sweden. Maria continued to excel in her studies and was accepted into the Royal College of Music in Stockholm at the age of 16. She studied under the guidance of Professor Lars Anders Tomter, one of Sweden's most respected violin teachers. During her time at the Royal College of Music, Maria won several awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Ljunggrenska Competition. After completing her studies at the Royal College of Music, Maria moved to Germany to further her education. She enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where she studied with Professor Ana Chumachenco. Maria's time in Munich was a turning point in her career, as she was exposed to a wider range of musical styles and began to develop her own unique sound. Maria's talent and hard work paid off when she won first prize in the International Violin Competition in Hannover in 2008. This was a major achievement for Maria, as the competition is one of the most prestigious in the world and attracts some of the best young violinists from around the globe. Following her success in Hannover, Maria began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world. She made her debut at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010, performing the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was a huge success, and Maria received a standing ovation from the audience. Maria's career continued to flourish, and she went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. She also collaborated with some of the most respected conductors of our time, including Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Riccardo Muti. In addition to her work as a soloist, Maria was also a passionate chamber musician. She was a member of the acclaimed Artemis Quartet from 2012 until 2018, and the quartet performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Wigmore Hall. Throughout her career, Maria received numerous awards and accolades for her exceptional talent and contributions to the world of classical music. In 2014, she was awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Litteris et Artibus medal, which is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts and culture in Sweden. She was also awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2016, which provides support and recognition to exceptional young musicians. Tragically, Maria's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. Despite her illness, she continued to perform and inspire audiences with her music. She passed away on October 29, 2019, at the age of 34. Maria Wieslander was a truly exceptional musician who left an indelible mark on the world of classical music.More....
