From a young age, Bäcker showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. He began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly developed a natural talent for the instrument. Bäcker's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. There, he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. Bäcker's talent and dedication to his craft were evident from the start, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most promising young pianists of his generation. In 1972, Bäcker made his debut performance at the Berlin Philharmonic, where he played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a resounding success, and Bäcker received critical acclaim for his technical skill and emotional depth. This performance marked the beginning of Bäcker's illustrious career as a concert pianist.
