The Pierce-Aomori Duo is a classical music ensemble consisting of pianist Robert Pierce and cellist Mimi Aomori. The duo was founded in 2015 and has since become known for their dynamic and expressive performances. Robert Pierce, originally from the United States, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Mimi Aomori, originally from Japan, is a graduate of the Toho Gakuen School of Music and has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles in Japan and the United States. The duo first met while studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together regularly. In 2015, they officially formed the Pierce-Aomori Duo and began performing concerts throughout the United States and Japan. One of the duo's most notable performances was at the 2017 Tokyo International Music Festival, where they received the festival's top prize. Their performance was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth, and the duo was invited to perform at the festival again in 2018. In addition to their success at the Tokyo International Music Festival, the Pierce-Aomori Duo has also received critical acclaim for their performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Lincoln Center in New York City. They have also performed at numerous other prestigious venues throughout the United States and Japan, including Carnegie Hall and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. The duo's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary. They are particularly known for their interpretations of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich.
