He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional bassoonist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Stotijn showed a keen interest in music and began playing the bassoon at the age of nine. Stotijn's talent was quickly recognized, and he was accepted into the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam at the age of 16. He studied under the tutelage of renowned bassoonist Brian Pollard and graduated with honors in 1996. After completing his studies, Stotijn began his professional career as a bassoonist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and versatile bassoonists of his generation. He was known for his technical proficiency, musicality, and ability to play a wide range of musical styles. Stotijn's career highlights include performances with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de France. Stotijn has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Dutch Music Prize in 2008. He has also been awarded the Edison Classical Music Award, the highest honor in Dutch music, on multiple occasions. In addition to his work as a performer, Stotijn is also a dedicated teacher.
