Role:EnsembleLes Folies Françoises is a French Baroque music ensemble that was founded in 1991 by the renowned French violinist and conductor, Patrick Cohën-Akenine. The ensemble is known for its exceptional performances of French Baroque music, particularly the works of Jean-Philippe Rameau, François Couperin, and Marin Marais. Patrick Cohën-Akenine was born in Paris in 1962 and began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and later at the Juilliard School in New York. Cohën-Akenine quickly established himself as a leading violinist and conductor, performing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and ensembles. In 1991, Cohën-Akenine founded Les Folies Françoises with the aim of exploring and promoting French Baroque music. The ensemble takes its name from the popular Baroque dance form, the folia, which was often used as a basis for variations in Baroque music. Les Folies Françoises quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and dynamic performances, which combined historical accuracy with a fresh and modern approach. One of the highlights of Les Folies Françoises' early career was its performance of Rameau's opera, Les Indes Galantes, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 1996. The production was a critical and commercial success, and helped to establish Les Folies Françoises as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in France. Over the years, Les Folies Françoises has continued to perform and record extensively, both in France and internationally. The ensemble has collaborated with many leading soloists and conductors, including Jordi Savall, Philippe Jaroussky, and Christophe Rousset. In 2004, Les Folies Françoises released a highly acclaimed recording of Rameau's opera, Hippolyte et Aricie, which won several awards, including a Diapason d'Or. In addition to its performances and recordings, Les Folies Françoises is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has developed a number of educational programs for schools and community groups. Les Folies Françoises has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the prestigious Victoires de la Musique Classique award in 2005. The ensemble has also been praised for its commitment to historical accuracy and authenticity, and for its innovative and dynamic approach to Baroque music. Today, Les Folies Françoises continues to be one of the leading Baroque ensembles in France, and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative groups in the world of classical music. With its commitment to historical accuracy, its fresh and modern approach, and its exceptional musicianship, Les Folies Françoises is sure to continue delighting audiences for many years to come.More....
