Born on August 23, 1966, in Linz, Austria, Pesendorfer grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a singer, which meant that music was always a part of his life. He later went on to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he received his diploma in voice and opera. During his time at the university, he was mentored by renowned bass-baritone Walter Berry, who helped him develop his vocal technique and stage presence. After completing his studies, Pesendorfer began his professional career as a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera. He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and commanding stage presence, and he soon began to receive invitations to perform at other major opera houses around the world. One of Pesendorfer's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" at the Salzburg Festival in 1999.
