The Orion Trio was founded in 1997, when Florentina Ramniceanu and Benjamin Capps met while studying at the Juilliard School in New York City. The two musicians quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as a duo. In 2001, they were joined by pianist Anna Petrova, and the Orion Trio was born. Since their formation, the Orion Trio has become one of the most sought-after chamber ensembles in the world. They have performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and the Ravinia Festival. The trio has also toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, captivating audiences with their virtuosic performances and unique interpretations of classical repertoire. One of the highlights of the Orion Trio's career was their performance at the 2003 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The trio was invited to perform with the competition's finalists, and their performance was hailed as one of the highlights of the event.
