Born in Moscow in 1970, Scheps showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a prodigious talent, winning his first competition at the age of eight and going on to win numerous awards throughout his youth. Scheps continued his musical education at the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with some of the most esteemed teachers in the country. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation, and his performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. In 1991, Scheps moved to Germany to continue his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover.
