Ensemble Capriccio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The founding members of Ensemble Capriccio were violinist Rachel Lee Priday, cellist Adrian Daurov, and pianist David Kaplan. All three musicians had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. They were joined by violist Mark Holloway and clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois, both of whom were also accomplished musicians in their own right. From the beginning, Ensemble Capriccio set out to explore the rich and varied repertoire of chamber music, from the classical era to the present day. The ensemble's programming has always been eclectic, featuring works by both well-known composers and lesser-known gems. The ensemble's members are known for their technical prowess and their ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music they perform. Over the years, Ensemble Capriccio has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States and abroad. The ensemble has been featured at the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, the Kennedy Center, and the Ravinia Festival, among others. They have also toured extensively in Europe and Asia, earning critical acclaim for their performances. One of the highlights of Ensemble Capriccio's career was their performance at the 2010 Mostly Mozart Festival in New York City. The ensemble performed Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, one of the composer's most beloved works, to a sold-out audience. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising the ensemble's "exquisite playing" and "seamless ensemble work." Another notable performance by Ensemble Capriccio was their 2014 concert at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The ensemble performed a program of works by Brahms, including the composer's Piano Quintet in F minor. The performance was praised for its "passionate intensity" and "deep emotional resonance." Ensemble Capriccio has also been recognized for their recordings. In 2012, the ensemble released their debut album, featuring works by Schumann, Brahms, and Dvorak. The album was praised for its "impeccable musicianship" and "sensitive interpretations." The ensemble's second album, released in 2016, featured works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble Capriccio is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with young musicians through masterclasses and workshops, and has performed in schools and community centers to bring classical music to a wider audience. Ensemble Capriccio has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2007, the ensemble was awarded the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant, which allowed them to work with young musicians in underserved communities. In 2011, the ensemble was named a finalist in the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. And in 2015, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a major career in music. Today, Ensemble Capriccio continues to be one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles in the world.
