Andrew Megill is a renowned conductor and choral director who has made a significant impact on the classical music scene. Born in 1964 in the United States, Megill grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a professional cellist, and his mother was a pianist and music teacher. Megill began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the cello and sing. Megill attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance. He then went on to study choral conducting at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Master of Music degree. Megill continued his studies at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting. Megill's career as a conductor began in the early 1990s when he was appointed the director of choral activities at the University of Illinois. He held this position for six years before moving on to become the director of choral activities at California State University, Long Beach. During his time at Long Beach, Megill led the university's choral program to new heights, earning numerous awards and accolades. In 2004, Megill was appointed the director of choral activities at the University of Illinois, a position he held until 2013. During his tenure, he led the university's choral program to national and international recognition, earning numerous awards and invitations to perform at prestigious venues around the world. Megill's reputation as a conductor and choral director continued to grow, and he was soon in demand as a guest conductor for orchestras and choirs around the world. He has conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra, among others. In addition to his work as a conductor, Megill is also an accomplished composer and arranger. He has written numerous choral works, including "The Road Not Taken," which was commissioned by the University of Illinois and premiered in 2012. Megill's career highlights include conducting the world premiere of John Adams' "The Gospel According to the Other Mary" with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2012. He also conducted the world premiere of "The Passion of Ramakrishna" by Philip Glass with the Pacific Symphony in 2006. During his time in Montreal, he led the orchestra's choral program to new heights, earning critical acclaim for his performances of works by Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. Today, Megill continues to be in demand as a guest conductor and choral director. He has conducted the National Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the San Francisco Symphony, among others. He is also a sought-after clinician and lecturer, and has given masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools around the world.
