Genre:OperaGenevieve Macaux was born on May 12, 1985, in Brussels, Belgium. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Macaux showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Macaux's parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels at the age of six. She quickly excelled in her studies and began performing in public at the age of eight. By the time she was ten, Macaux had won several local and national competitions, including the prestigious Princess Mathilde Prize. In 1997, Macaux was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied under the renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. During her time at Juilliard, Macaux continued to win awards and accolades, including the school's prestigious Concerto Competition. After graduating from Juilliard in 2005, Macaux began her professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation for her virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations of classical works. In 2007, she made her debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto to critical acclaim. Over the next few years, Macaux continued to perform with major orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She also began recording extensively, releasing several albums of solo and chamber music. In 2012, Macaux was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards for young classical musicians in the United States. The award recognized her exceptional talent and potential for a long and successful career in classical music. In addition to her solo career, Macaux is also an active chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. She is also a founding member of the Macaux Trio, which has received critical acclaim for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. Throughout her career, Macaux has been committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. She has given numerous masterclasses and educational concerts, and has worked with several organizations to bring classical music to underserved communities. In 2019, Macaux was appointed as the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the orchestra's history.
