The Berkshire Boy Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble that has captivated audiences around the world with their angelic voices and impeccable harmonies. The choir was founded in 1982 by Dr. Harold F. Johnson, a music professor at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Dr. Johnson had a passion for choral music and wanted to create a choir that would showcase the talents of young boys in the Berkshire region. The choir started with just a handful of boys, but quickly grew in popularity as their reputation for excellence spread. The boys in the choir ranged in age from 8 to 18 and came from all walks of life. They shared a love of music and a dedication to their craft that was evident in every performance. Over the years, the Berkshire Boy Choir has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of the choir's career was their performance at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The choir was invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where they sang the national anthem and several other patriotic songs. Their performance was broadcast to millions of people around the world and was widely praised for its beauty and emotional impact. The Berkshire Boy Choir has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1998, they were awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America. This award is given annually to a choir that has demonstrated exceptional artistic quality and has made significant contributions to the choral art form. In addition to their performances, the Berkshire Boy Choir is also committed to music education and outreach. They offer a variety of programs and workshops for young singers, including a summer music camp and a mentorship program for aspiring conductors. They also perform regularly at local schools and community events, sharing their love of music with audiences of all ages. Sadly, Dr. Johnson passed away in 2010, but his legacy lives on through the Berkshire Boy Choir. Under the direction of their current conductor, Dr. James Burton, the choir continues to inspire audiences with their beautiful music and dedication to excellence. They are a shining example of the power of music to bring people together and uplift the human spirit.
