The Curtis Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1924 by Mary Louise Curtis Bok, the orchestra is composed of students and faculty members of the Curtis Institute of Music, one of the world's leading conservatories for classical music education. Mary Louise Curtis Bok, a philanthropist and music lover, established the Curtis Institute of Music in memory of her father, Cyrus H.K. Curtis, who was a publisher and founder of the Curtis Publishing Company. The institute was created to provide talented young musicians with the opportunity to receive a world-class education in music, regardless of their financial background. The Curtis Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra is one of the institute's most prestigious ensembles, comprising some of the most talented young musicians from around the world. The orchestra is led by a rotating roster of renowned conductors, including Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who served as the orchestra's principal conductor from 2003 to 2018. Over the years, the Curtis Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and music festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Edinburgh International Festival.
