Michelle Stebleton is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. She was born in 1970 in the United States and grew up in a family that valued music. Her parents were both music teachers, and they encouraged her to pursue her passion for music from a young age. Stebleton began her musical journey by learning to play the cello at the age of six. She quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began to take lessons with some of the best cello teachers in the country. She continued to hone her skills throughout her childhood and teenage years, and by the time she was ready to attend college, she was already a highly accomplished cellist. In 1988, Stebleton enrolled at the University of Michigan School of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned cellist Erling Blöndal Bengtsson. During her time at the university, she was a member of the Michigan Chamber Players and the University Symphony Orchestra. She also participated in several masterclasses and workshops, where she had the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected cellists in the world. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1992, Stebleton went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. There, she studied with cellist Laurence Lesser and was a member of the conservatory's prestigious Chamber Music Society. Stebleton's talent and dedication to her craft quickly caught the attention of the classical music world, and she began to receive invitations to perform at some of the most prestigious venues in the country. In 1994, she made her debut as a soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra, performing the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1. The performance was a resounding success, and it marked the beginning of Stebleton's career as a soloist. Over the years, Stebleton has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with some of the most respected conductors in the world, including Leonard Slatkin, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Sir Simon Rattle. In addition to her work as a soloist, Stebleton is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with some of the most respected chamber ensembles in the world, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri String Quartet, and the Tokyo String Quartet. She is also a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning ensemble Trio Solisti, which has been praised for its "musical fire" and "technical brilliance." Throughout her career, Stebleton has received numerous awards and accolades for her work as a cellist. In 1996, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for the future. She has also been a recipient of the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which is awarded to exceptional young musicians who are at the beginning of their careers. In addition to her work as a performer, Stebleton is also a dedicated teacher. She has served on the faculty of several prestigious music schools, including the University of Michigan School of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Manhattan School of Music. She is currently a professor of cello at Florida State University, where she has been a member of the faculty since 2001.
