Boston Chorus Pro Musica is a classical music ensemble that has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years. Founded in 1965 by Alfred Nash Patterson, the group has become one of the most respected choral ensembles in the United States. The group has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the country, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. The ensemble is made up of approximately 100 singers, all of whom are volunteers. The group is led by Music Director and Conductor, Dr. Kevin Leong. Dr. Leong has been with the group since 2015 and has brought a new level of energy and excitement to the ensemble. Boston Chorus Pro Musica has a rich history of performing a wide range of classical music, from the Renaissance to contemporary works. The group has also collaborated with some of the most renowned orchestras in the country, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Handel and Haydn Society. One of the highlights of the group's history was their performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 1970. The performance was conducted by Leonard Bernstein and featured the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a huge success and helped to establish Boston Chorus Pro Musica as one of the premier choral ensembles in the country. In addition to their performances with major orchestras, Boston Chorus Pro Musica has also performed in a number of operas. One of their most notable performances was in 1976 when they performed in the world premiere of Gian Carlo Menotti's opera, "The Hero." The performance was a huge success and helped to establish the group as a leader in the world of opera. Over the years, Boston Chorus Pro Musica has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 1972, the group was awarded the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance for their recording of Stravinsky's "Symphony of Psalms." The group has also been recognized by the Boston Music Awards and the Boston Globe. In addition to their performances, Boston Chorus Pro Musica is also committed to education and outreach.
