Ken Surley was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Ken showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Ken's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking formal piano lessons at the age of six and quickly progressed through the grades. By the time he was a teenager, Ken had already won several local and national piano competitions. In 2003, Ken was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist, Professor John Smith. During his time at the academy, Ken honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. After graduating from the academy in 2007, Ken began performing professionally. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile pianist, capable of playing a wide range of musical styles. He performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. One of Ken's most memorable performances was at the 2010 International Piano Competition in Moscow. He competed against some of the world's most talented pianists and emerged as the winner, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. In addition to his solo performances, Ken also collaborated with other musicians and performed as part of a chamber ensemble. He was particularly fond of playing with string quartets and often worked with some of the best ensembles in the world. Ken's talent and hard work were recognized by the music industry, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2012, he was awarded the prestigious International Classical Music Award for his recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14. He also received the Gramophone Award for Best Chamber Music Performance in 2014 for his collaboration with the Belcea Quartet. Despite his success, Ken remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours every day, always striving to improve his technique and interpretation of classical music. Tragically, Ken's career was cut short when he passed away in a car accident in 2016. He was only 31 years old.
