Adam Unsworth is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music through his exceptional skills as a French horn player, composer, and educator. Born in 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Unsworth grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist, which influenced his musical journey. Unsworth began playing the French horn at the age of 12 and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. He attended the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia, where he received his early music education. He later went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in French horn performance. He continued his studies at the Yale School of Music, where he earned a Master of Music degree in French horn performance. After completing his studies, Unsworth began his professional career as a French horn player. He has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with various orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Network for New Music Ensemble. Unsworth is also an accomplished composer and has written numerous works for the French horn, including solo pieces, chamber music, and orchestral works. His compositions have been performed by many renowned musicians and ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. In addition to his performing and composing career, Unsworth is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at various institutions, including the University of Michigan, Temple University, and the Curtis Institute of Music. He is currently a professor of French horn at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Throughout his career, Unsworth has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of music. In 1998, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding instrumentalists who show great potential for a significant career in music. He has also received the National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Grant and the Pew Fellowship in the Arts.
