Iris Fairfax was born on May 15, 1985, in London, England. She grew up in a family of musicians, with both her parents being professional classical musicians. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a cellist. From a young age, Iris was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Iris showed exceptional talent and dedication to music from a young age. She began taking piano lessons with her mother and quickly progressed to more advanced pieces. By the age of ten, she had already won several local piano competitions and was performing in public regularly. In 1997, Iris was accepted into the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, England. The school is known for its rigorous music program and has produced many world-renowned musicians. Iris studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Peter Feuchtwanger, who recognized her exceptional talent and helped her develop her skills further. During her time at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Iris won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2000. This competition is one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world and has launched the careers of many successful musicians. After graduating from the Yehudi Menuhin School, Iris went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She continued to excel in her studies and won several more awards and competitions, including the Royal Overseas League Music Competition and the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. Iris began performing professionally while still a student at the Royal Academy of Music. She made her debut at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2006, performing a solo recital to critical acclaim. Her performance was described as "mesmerizing" and "spellbinding," and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. Since then, Iris has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Iris is known for her exceptional technique and musicality. She has a deep understanding of the music she plays and is able to convey its emotional depth and complexity to her audiences. Her performances are often described as "transcendent" and "profoundly moving." In addition to her performing career, Iris is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at several music schools and universities, including the Royal Academy of Music and the Juilliard School in New York. She is passionate about passing on her knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians. Iris has received many awards and honors throughout her career. In 2010, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to music. She has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Instrumentalist Award and the Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording. Despite her many achievements, Iris remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to practice for several hours a day and is always looking for ways to improve her playing.
