Mare Duo is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by two talented musicians, violinist Maria Semeraro and pianist Alessandro Viale. The duo has quickly gained recognition for their exceptional performances and unique interpretations of classical music. Maria Semeraro was born in Italy and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Conservatory of Music in Bari and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. Alessandro Viale, also from Italy, began playing the piano at the age of five and studied at the Conservatory of Music in Turin. He later continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The two musicians met while studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and quickly discovered a shared passion for classical music. They began performing together and soon realized that they had a special musical connection. This led to the formation of Mare Duo in 2015. The name Mare Duo was inspired by the Latin word for sea, which represents the duo's desire to explore new musical horizons and push the boundaries of classical music. The duo's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Mozart, as well as contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt and Philip Glass. Mare Duo has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. They have also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival and the Lucerne Festival. One of the highlights of Mare Duo's career was their performance at the 2018 BBC Proms, where they performed Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 in A major, Op. 47, also known as the "Kreutzer Sonata". The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The Guardian describing it as "a performance of great intensity and emotional depth". Mare Duo has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 2017, they were awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which provides financial support and career development opportunities for exceptional young musicians. They were also awarded the 2018 Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music, which recognizes outstanding achievements in chamber music performance. In addition to their performances, Mare Duo is also committed to music education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians in Italy, Germany, and the UK, and have also performed in hospitals and care homes as part of the Live Music Now program. Mare Duo's unique musical style and exceptional performances have made them one of the most exciting classical music ensembles of their generation.
