Alexander Bickard was born on May 15, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Bickard was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Bickard's talent was evident from a young age, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy, and by the age of ten, he had already won several competitions and performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. Bickard's musical education was extensive, and he studied with some of the most renowned pianists of his time. He attended the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Franz Schmidt. He later went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Professor Yoheved Kaplinsky. Bickard's career took off in the early 2000s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and his performances were always met with critical acclaim. One of Bickard's most notable performances was at the Salzburg Festival in 2005. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Bickard was praised for his technical skill and emotional depth. Bickard's repertoire was extensive, and he was known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. He was also a champion of contemporary music and premiered several works by contemporary composers. In addition to his performances, Bickard was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Vienna Conservatory and the Juilliard School, and his students included some of the most promising young pianists of their generation. Bickard's career was tragically cut short when he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010. Despite his illness, he continued to perform and teach, and he remained an inspiration to his colleagues and students. Bickard passed away on June 12, 2012, at the age of 27.
