The Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players is a classical music ensemble based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The group was formed in 1988 as a subsidiary of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, with the aim of promoting chamber music in Tasmania and beyond. The ensemble comprises a core group of musicians from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, as well as guest artists from around the world. Over the years, the group has performed a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque to contemporary music, and has collaborated with some of the world's leading soloists and conductors. One of the highlights of the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players' early years was their performance at the 1990 Adelaide Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet. This performance helped to establish the group's reputation as one of Australia's leading chamber ensembles. In the years that followed, the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players continued to build on their success, performing at major festivals and venues across Australia and internationally. They have also released several recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of music by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe. One of the group's most memorable performances was their collaboration with the Australian Ballet in 2005, where they provided live accompaniment for a production of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. This performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising the ensemble's precision and energy. In addition to their performances, the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players have also been recognized for their contributions to the arts. In 2002, they were awarded the prestigious Australia Council Music Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to Australian music. Despite their many achievements, the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players remain committed to their mission of promoting chamber music in Tasmania and beyond. They continue to perform regularly, both as a standalone ensemble and as part of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and are widely regarded as one of Australia's finest classical music ensembles.
