Livia Sohn is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a violinist. Born in South Korea, Sohn grew up in a family of musicians. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a conductor. Sohn's parents recognized her talent for music at a young age and encouraged her to pursue it. Sohn began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed promise. She studied with some of the best teachers in South Korea and eventually moved to the United States to continue her education. Sohn attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with Dorothy DeLay, one of the most respected violin teachers in the world. After graduating from Juilliard, Sohn began her professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained recognition for her virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity. Sohn has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. One of Sohn's most memorable performances was at the 2006 Aspen Music Festival, where she played the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Aspen Festival Orchestra. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Sohn received a standing ovation from the audience. Sohn has also won numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2001, she won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which led to her debut recital at Carnegie Hall. She has also been a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is awarded to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise. In addition to her solo career, Sohn is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Guarneri String Quartet. Sohn is also a founding member of the Trio Vivo, a piano trio that has received critical acclaim for their performances and recordings. Sohn is known for her passionate and expressive playing, as well as her dedication to new music. She has premiered works by some of today's leading composers, including John Adams, Jennifer Higdon, and Augusta Read Thomas. In addition to her performing career, Sohn is also a dedicated teacher.
