Polo de Haas is a renowned Dutch classical pianist, composer, and educator. He was born on September 26, 1944, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, which influenced his early interest in music. At the age of six, he started taking piano lessons from his mother, and by the age of ten, he was already performing in public. De Haas studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he received his diploma in piano performance in 1966. He continued his studies with renowned pianists such as György Sebők, Maria João Pires, and Alfred Brendel. He also studied composition with Ton de Leeuw and Louis Andriessen. De Haas made his debut as a soloist with the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in 1967, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3. Since then, he has performed with many orchestras and ensembles, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. De Haas has also performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including cellist Anner Bylsma, violinist Emmy Verhey, and pianist Ronald Brautigam. In addition to his performing career, de Haas is also a prolific composer. He has written numerous works for piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestra. His compositions have been performed by many musicians and ensembles, including the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and the Schönberg Ensemble.
