Period:BaroqueGenre:ConcertoCamerata Lysy Gstaad is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1981 by the renowned Argentine cellist, Alberto Lysy. The ensemble is based in Gstaad, Switzerland, and is made up of some of the most talented musicians from around the world. Alberto Lysy was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1935. He began playing the violin at a young age and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. Lysy's career as a soloist and chamber musician took him all over the world, and he performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras and conductors of his time. In 1981, he decided to create his own ensemble, which he named Camerata Lysy Gstaad. The ensemble's main members are all highly accomplished musicians in their own right. They include violinists such as Pavel Vernikov, Sergey Ostrovsky, and Maxim Vengerov, as well as cellists like Mischa Maisky and Gautier Capuçon. The ensemble also features pianists, violists, and other instrumentalists, depending on the repertoire being performed. Camerata Lysy Gstaad has performed all over the world, including in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals. Some of their most notable performances include a concert at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II, a performance at the United Nations in Geneva, and a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ensemble has also won numerous awards and accolades throughout its history. In 1992, they were awarded the Prix de la Fondation Vaudoise pour la Culture, which is one of the most prestigious cultural awards in Switzerland. They have also been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or for their recordings. One of the highlights of Camerata Lysy Gstaad's career was their collaboration with the legendary Argentine composer, Astor Piazzolla. In 1989, they recorded an album of Piazzolla's music, which was released to critical acclaim. The album, titled "The Soul of Tango," features some of Piazzolla's most famous works, including "Libertango" and "Adiós Nonino." Another notable collaboration for the ensemble was with the Swiss composer, Frank Martin. In 1990, they recorded Martin's "Ballade for Cello and Orchestra," which was written specifically for Alberto Lysy. The recording was praised for its emotional depth and technical virtuosity. Camerata Lysy Gstaad continues to perform and record to this day, and their legacy as one of the most talented and innovative classical music ensembles of the 20th century is secure. Their dedication to excellence and their passion for music have inspired countless musicians and audiences around the world.More....
