Terri Sundberg is a renowned classical flutist who has made a name for herself in the world of music. Born in 1961 in the United States, Sundberg grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a singer. Sundberg started playing the flute at the age of nine and quickly fell in love with the instrument. Sundberg's talent for the flute was evident from an early age. She won her first competition at the age of 12 and went on to win numerous awards throughout her teenage years. She attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where she studied with renowned flutist Julius Baker. After graduating from high school, Sundberg went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. Sundberg's career as a professional flutist began in the early 1980s. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and she was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1985, she won the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition, which helped to launch her career. Over the years, Sundberg has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. She has been a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and many others. She has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including the Marlboro Music Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival. Sundberg's repertoire is wide-ranging, and she is known for her interpretations of both classical and contemporary music. She has premiered works by many of today's leading composers, including John Harbison, Joan Tower, and Augusta Read Thomas. She has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete flute works of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. In addition to her work as a performer, Sundberg is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at several universities and conservatories, including the University of North Texas, the University of Michigan, and the University of Miami. She is currently a professor of flute at the University of North Texas, where she has been on the faculty since 1992. Sundberg's contributions to the world of music have not gone unnoticed. She has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including the National Flute Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. She has also been a recipient of the Fulbright Scholar Award, which allowed her to study and perform in Germany. Despite her many accomplishments, Sundberg remains humble and dedicated to her craft.
