Razumovsky Sinfonia is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998 in London, England. The ensemble is named after Count Andreas Razumovsky, a Russian diplomat and patron of the arts who commissioned Beethoven's Razumovsky Quartets. The ensemble's founding members were a group of young musicians who had recently graduated from the Royal College of Music in London. The ensemble's main members have changed over the years, but it has always been led by a core group of talented musicians. The ensemble's current artistic director is cellist and conductor Jonathan Bloxham, who has been with the ensemble since 2015. Other current members include violinists Benjamin Baker and Emily Sun, violist Timothy Ridout, and cellist Bartholomew LaFollette. Razumovsky Sinfonia has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, and the Wigmore Hall in London, as well as the Konzerthaus in Berlin and the Musikverein in Vienna. The ensemble has also performed at numerous music festivals, including the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. One of the ensemble's most notable performances was at the 2011 BBC Proms, where they performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the BBC Symphony Chorus and soloists including soprano Sally Matthews and tenor Toby Spence. The performance was widely praised for its energy and precision, and was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Razumovsky Sinfonia has also been recognized for its recordings, including a 2017 album of works by Haydn and Mozart that was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "sparkling energy and stylish playing." The ensemble has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artists Award and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, which recognizes outstanding young musicians. In addition to its performances and recordings, Razumovsky Sinfonia is committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and has worked with organizations such as the London Music Masters and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain to mentor young musicians. Overall, Razumovsky Sinfonia is a dynamic and versatile ensemble that has established itself as one of the leading classical music groups in the world. With its commitment to excellence in performance and education, the ensemble is sure to continue making an impact on the classical music world for years to come.
