Howard Vanderburg was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Vanderburg showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Vanderburg's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed a passion for classical music. By the age of ten, Vanderburg had already performed in several concerts and had won several awards for his piano playing. In 1997, Vanderburg was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Vanderburg continued to excel in his piano playing and won several competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Vanderburg went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. There, he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Gary Graffman and continued to hone his skills as a pianist. Vanderburg's talent and dedication paid off, and he was soon recognized as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation. In 2007, Vanderburg made his debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and Vanderburg received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. This performance marked the beginning of Vanderburg's career as a soloist, and he soon began performing with orchestras all over the world. Over the years, Vanderburg has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Beethoven's piano sonatas, which he has performed in their entirety in several concerts. In addition to his career as a soloist, Vanderburg is also a dedicated chamber musician. He has performed with some of the world's most renowned chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Throughout his career, Vanderburg has received numerous awards and accolades for his piano playing. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, which is given to pianists who demonstrate exceptional musicianship and dedication to their craft.
