The Tiffin Children's Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their angelic voices for over 30 years. Founded in 1989 by Kerry and Melody Glann, the choir has grown from a small group of 30 children to a world-class ensemble of over 200 singers. The Glanns, both music educators, were inspired to start the choir after attending a performance by the Vienna Boys' Choir. They saw the potential for a similar group in their hometown of Tiffin, Ohio, and set out to create a children's choir that would provide young singers with the opportunity to develop their musical talents and perform at the highest level. The choir's early years were marked by hard work and dedication. The Glanns spent countless hours rehearsing with the children, teaching them the fundamentals of music theory and vocal technique. They also worked tirelessly to secure performance opportunities for the choir, both locally and nationally. One of the choir's early highlights was their performance at the 1992 Ohio Music Education Association Conference. The choir's rendition of Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols" was met with thunderous applause and critical acclaim. This performance helped to establish the choir's reputation as a top-tier ensemble and opened the door to many more performance opportunities. Over the years, the Tiffin Children's Choir has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and composers in the classical music world, including John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, and Eric Whitacre. One of the choir's most memorable performances was their appearance at the 2002 World Choir Games in Busan, South Korea. The choir competed against over 300 other choirs from around the world and took home the gold medal in the Children's Choir category. This was a major achievement for the choir and cemented their status as one of the best children's choirs in the world. In addition to their many performance accolades, the Tiffin Children's Choir has also received numerous awards for their recordings. Their album "Sing for the Holidays" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2004, and their album "Christmas with the Tiffin Children's Choir" won the Independent Music Award for Best Holiday Album in 2010. Despite their many achievements, the Tiffin Children's Choir remains committed to their mission of providing young singers with the opportunity to develop their musical talents and perform at the highest level. The choir is open to children ages 7-18 and is divided into four different ensembles based on age and skill level. The choir's current artistic director, Brad Rees, has been with the ensemble since 2003 and has continued the Glanns' tradition of excellence. Under his leadership, the choir has continued to push the boundaries of what is possible for a children's choir, performing complex and challenging repertoire with ease and precision. In addition to their regular concert schedule, the Tiffin Children's Choir is also committed to community outreach and education. They regularly perform at local schools and retirement homes, and offer workshops and masterclasses for young singers. The Tiffin Children's Choir is a shining example of the power of music to inspire and uplift.
