Born on 5th March 1950 in Padua, Italy, Zilio grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Zilio showed a keen interest in music and began taking piano lessons at the age of six. Zilio's passion for music continued to grow, and she began studying singing at the Conservatory of Padua. She made her operatic debut in 1972 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, where she played the role of Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto. This performance marked the beginning of a long and successful career in the world of opera. Over the years, Zilio has performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. She has worked with some of the most renowned conductors and directors in the industry, including Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, and Franco Zeffirelli. One of Zilio's most notable performances was her portrayal of Azucena in Verdi's Il Trovatore at the Royal Opera House in London in 1984. Her performance was widely praised by critics, who described her as a "powerful and moving" singer. Zilio's performance in Il Trovatore earned her international recognition and established her as one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation. Zilio has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career.
