Moriz Rosenthal was a renowned classical music composer and pianist who was born on December 18, 1862, in Lemberg, Galicia, which is now known as Lviv, Ukraine. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Ignaz Rosenthal, was a well-known violinist and conductor. Moriz Rosenthal showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Rosenthal's musical talent was recognized early on, and he began studying with some of the best teachers in Europe. He studied with Franz Liszt in Weimar, Germany, and later with Anton Rubinstein in St. Petersburg, Russia. He also studied with Carl Tausig, who was a student of Franz Liszt. Rosenthal's career as a pianist began in the late 1880s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his time. He performed throughout Europe and the United States, and his performances were always well-received by audiences and critics alike. In addition to his career as a pianist, Rosenthal was also a prolific composer. He composed a wide range of works, including piano pieces, chamber music, and orchestral works. His compositions were influenced by the Romantic era, and he was known for his virtuosic piano writing. One of Rosenthal's most famous compositions is his transcription of Johann Strauss II's "Blue Danube" waltz. Rosenthal's other notable compositions include his Piano Concerto in C-sharp minor, his Sonata in B-flat minor, and his Suite in F-sharp minor.
