Period:BaroqueModernGenre:ChamberConcertoJozef Zsapka was a Slovak classical guitarist and composer who was born on January 22, 1956, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. He was the son of a musician and began playing the guitar at the age of six. Zsapka's father was his first teacher, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the Bratislava Conservatory, where he received a degree in guitar performance. After completing his studies, Zsapka began performing professionally and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented guitarists in Slovakia. He won several awards at international guitar competitions, including first prize at the International Guitar Competition in Kutna Hora, Czechoslovakia, in 1979. Zsapka's career took off in the 1980s when he began touring internationally. He performed in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United States, and was praised for his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity. He also recorded several albums, including "Guitar Recital" and "Guitar Music of the 20th Century." One of Zsapka's most notable performances was at the International Guitar Festival in Paris in 1985. He performed a program of works by Bach, Sor, and Paganini, and received a standing ovation from the audience. The performance was later broadcast on French television and helped to establish Zsapka as a major figure in the classical guitar world. Zsapka was also a prolific composer and wrote many works for the guitar, including solo pieces, chamber music, and concertos. His compositions were influenced by a variety of styles, including classical, folk, and jazz, and were characterized by their technical difficulty and expressive lyricism. In addition to his performing and composing, Zsapka was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Bratislava Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and was known for his patient and supportive approach to teaching. Tragically, Zsapka's career was cut short when he died in a car accident on December 17, 1989, at the age of 33. His death was a great loss to the classical guitar world, and he is remembered as one of the most talented and innovative guitarists of his generation.More....
