Nelson began playing the flute at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He was encouraged by his parents to pursue his passion for music, and he began taking lessons with some of the best flute teachers in the country. After completing his studies at Interlochen, Nelson went on to attend the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with Julius Baker, one of the most influential flutists of the 20th century. During his time at Curtis, Nelson honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of the flute and its repertoire. Nelson's talent and dedication to his craft soon caught the attention of the music world, and he began to receive invitations to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country. He made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1995, and since then, he has performed with many other orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Emerson String Quartet, and the Guarneri String Quartet. Nelson's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He has a unique ability to connect with his audience and to bring out the beauty and complexity of the music he plays. His repertoire is vast and includes works from all periods of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary.
