Mikel Kuehn is a contemporary classical music composer who was born in 1975 in the United States. He grew up in a musical family, with his mother being a pianist and his father a composer. Kuehn began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. He went on to study music at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in composition. After completing his undergraduate studies, Kuehn continued his education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in composition. He then went on to earn a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition from the University of Michigan. Throughout his career, Kuehn has composed a wide range of works, including orchestral pieces, chamber music, and vocal music. His music is known for its intricate harmonies and use of unconventional instruments and sounds. One of Kuehn's most notable works is his orchestral piece, "The Stillness of the World Before Bach." The piece was commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra and premiered in 2011. It is a tribute to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and features a solo violin part that is reminiscent of Bach's solo violin works. The piece has been praised for its beauty and emotional depth. Another notable work by Kuehn is his chamber piece, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse." The piece was commissioned by the New York-based ensemble, Alarm Will Sound, and premiered in 2014.
