From a young age, Ann showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. Her parents were both musicians, and they encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Ann attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she studied under the guidance of Ivan Galamian, a renowned violin teacher. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1973 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the same institution. During her time at Juilliard, Ann was a member of the Juilliard Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra. After completing her studies, Ann began her professional career as a violinist. She joined the New York Philharmonic in 1977 as a member of the second violin section. Over the years, she worked her way up to become the associate concertmaster of the orchestra. During her time with the New York Philharmonic, Ann has performed under the baton of some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Lorin Maazel. Ann has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras around the world. She has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others. Her performances have been praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to her work as a performer, Ann is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Juilliard School of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. Many of her students have gone on to have successful careers as musicians.
