Andrea Keller is a renowned Australian jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. She was born on April 6, 1973, in Sydney, Australia, and grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a classical pianist. Keller started playing the piano at the age of four and began formal training at the age of six. Keller's early musical influences were classical music and jazz. She studied classical piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and later jazz at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. During her studies, she was exposed to a wide range of musical styles, including contemporary classical music, free improvisation, and world music. In 1999, Keller formed the Andrea Keller Quartet, which quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach to jazz. The quartet's debut album, "Thirteen Sketches," was released in 2000 and received critical acclaim. The album showcased Keller's unique compositional style, which blended elements of jazz, classical music, and improvisation. Over the years, Keller has collaborated with many of Australia's leading jazz musicians, including saxophonist Jamie Oehlers, trumpeter Eugene Ball, and drummer Allan Browne. She has also worked with international jazz artists such as saxophonist Tim Berne and trumpeter Ron Miles. Keller has released over 20 albums as a bandleader and has received numerous awards and accolades for her work. In 2003, she won the Australian Jazz Bell Award for Best Jazz Composition for her piece "Footprints." In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Melbourne Prize for Music, which recognizes outstanding contributions to Australian music. Keller's music has been described as "intensely personal" and "deeply emotional." Her compositions often explore themes of memory, loss, and identity.
