Classic Rock String Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of classical and rock music since their founding in 2004. The quartet is made up of four talented musicians who have dedicated their lives to music and have a passion for creating innovative and exciting performances. The founding members of Classic Rock String Quartet are violinists Rachel Handman and Laura Metcalf, violist Angela Pickett, and cellist Valerie Thompson. The quartet was formed when the four musicians met while studying at the Juilliard School in New York City. They quickly discovered a shared love for both classical and rock music and began experimenting with combining the two genres. Their first major performance was at the Knitting Factory in New York City in 2004. The quartet played a set of classic rock songs arranged for string quartet, including hits by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd. The performance was a huge success and the quartet quickly gained a following. Since then, Classic Rock String Quartet has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Newport Music Festival, and the Caramoor Festival. One of the highlights of the quartet's career was their performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards. They were invited to perform with the Foo Fighters, playing a medley of the band's hits arranged for string quartet. In 2008, they were awarded the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant, which allowed them to work with students in underserved communities.
