Itamar Doari is a renowned percussionist and composer from Israel, known for his exceptional skills in playing a wide range of percussion instruments. Born in 1972 in Jaffa, Israel, Doari grew up in a family of musicians, which greatly influenced his passion for music. His father was a drummer, and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged him to pursue his musical interests. At the age of six, Doari began playing the darbuka, a traditional Middle Eastern drum, and quickly developed a natural talent for percussion. He later learned to play other percussion instruments, including the djembe, congas, bongos, and cajon. Doari's musical education continued at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts, where he studied classical percussion and jazz. After completing his studies, Doari began performing with various Israeli artists, including Idan Raichel, David Broza, and Ehud Banai. He also collaborated with international musicians, such as Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Zakir Hussain, and Richard Bona. Doari's unique style of playing percussion, which blends traditional Middle Eastern rhythms with modern jazz and world music, quickly gained recognition, and he became a sought-after musician in Israel and abroad. One of Doari's most significant performances was at the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. He was invited to perform with the Idan Raichel Project, which was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize that year. In 2007, Doari released his debut album, "I Forgot the Journey," which featured his original compositions and arrangements. The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for the Israeli Music Award for Best World Music Album. Doari continued to release several albums, including "Natural Balance" (2010), "Rhythm and Peace" (2013), and "From the Heart" (2018), which showcased his diverse musical influences and his mastery of percussion. In 2015, he was appointed as a lecturer at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where he teaches percussion and world music. In 2010, he was awarded the Landau Prize for the Performing Arts, one of the most prestigious awards in Israel. He was also awarded the ACUM Prize for Special Achievement in World Music in 2013 and the Israeli Ministry of Culture Prize for Outstanding Artists in 2018.
