The Treorchy Male Voice Choir is a Welsh choir that has been entertaining audiences with their beautiful harmonies and powerful voices for over 130 years. The choir was founded in 1883 in the small town of Treorchy, located in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. The choir was originally formed as a way for the local miners to come together and sing after a long day of work in the coal mines. Over the years, the choir grew in popularity and began to perform at local events and competitions. In 1900, the choir won their first major competition at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, which is a festival of Welsh culture and music. This win helped to establish the choir as one of the premier male voice choirs in Wales. Throughout the early 1900s, the choir continued to perform at local events and competitions, and they also began to tour throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. In 1926, the choir made their first recording, which was a collection of Welsh hymns and folk songs. This recording helped to introduce the choir to a wider audience and helped to establish them as one of the leading male voice choirs in the world. During World War II, many of the choir members were called up to serve in the military, and the choir was forced to disband temporarily. However, after the war ended, the choir reformed and continued to perform and tour throughout the world. In the 1950s and 1960s, the choir began to perform on television and radio, which helped to further increase their popularity. They also began to perform with other famous musicians, such as Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones. In 1973, the choir was invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which was a major highlight for the choir. This performance helped to establish the choir as one of the premier male voice choirs in the world, and they continued to perform at major venues and events throughout the world. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the choir continued to tour and perform, and they also released several albums. In 1999, the choir celebrated their 100th anniversary with a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which was attended by over 5,000 people. In recent years, the choir has continued to perform and tour throughout the world, and they have also released several new albums. They have won numerous awards and accolades for their performances, including the Welsh Music Prize and the International Eisteddfod Choir of the World award.
