Jan Antonín Losy, also known as Johann Anton Losy, was a Czech composer and lutenist who lived during the Baroque era. He was born in 1650 in the town of Častolovice, which was then part of the Kingdom of Bohemia. His father, Jan Adam Losy, was a nobleman and a courtier of the Habsburgs, and his mother, Anna Maria, was also from a noble family. Losy grew up in a musical family, and he began to learn the lute at a young age. He received his early musical education from his father, who was also a lutenist, and from other musicians who were part of the Habsburg court. Losy's talent for the lute was soon recognized, and he began to perform in public at a young age. In 1670, Losy moved to Vienna, where he became a member of the court of Emperor Leopold I. He quickly established himself as one of the leading lutenists of his time, and he was soon performing for the emperor and other members of the court. He also began to compose music for the lute, and his works were widely admired for their beauty and complexity. Losy's music was influenced by the Italian Baroque style, which was then popular in Europe. His compositions were characterized by their virtuosity and their use of complex harmonies and counterpoint. Losy's most famous work is his Suite in C Major, which is considered one of the greatest works for the lute.
