Aromates is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in France and is known for its unique blend of medieval and traditional music from around the world. The founding members of Aromates were Anne-Claire Baconnais, who plays the hurdy-gurdy and sings, and Jean-Christophe Morel, who plays the oud and the saz. They were later joined by percussionist and singer, Julien Ferrando, and violinist, Marie Bournisien. The ensemble's name, Aromates, is derived from the French word for spices, which reflects the group's interest in exploring the diverse musical traditions of different cultures. Aromates has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and has gained a reputation for its innovative and engaging performances. The ensemble's repertoire includes music from the medieval period, as well as traditional music from countries such as Turkey, Iran, and Morocco. One of the highlights of Aromates' career was their performance at the Festival de Musique Ancienne de Callas in 2010.
