Morta Grigaliunaite is a Lithuanian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her exceptional talent and musicality. Born on May 22, 1991, in Vilnius, Lithuania, Morta showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Her parents, who were both music teachers, recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Morta's early musical education was at the National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts in Vilnius, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Rasa Vitkauskaite. She later continued her studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance under the guidance of Professor Petras Geniusas. During her studies, Morta participated in numerous national and international competitions, winning several awards and prizes. In 2007, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Young Musician" in Vilnius, and in 2009, she was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition "Roma 2009" in Italy. In 2011, Morta won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Barletta" in Italy, and in 2012, she was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Padova" in Italy. Morta's talent and dedication to music have also been recognized by several prestigious organizations. In 2010, she was awarded the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture Scholarship for Young Artists, and in 2011, she received the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize for Young Artists. Morta's career as a concert pianist began in 2009, when she made her debut with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3. Since then, she has performed with many renowned orchestras, including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra. Morta has also given numerous solo recitals and chamber music concerts in Lithuania and abroad. She has performed in prestigious concert halls such as the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. One of the highlights of Morta's career was her performance at the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2019. She was one of the 25 pianists selected from around the world to compete in the prestigious competition, and she made it to the second round, receiving high praise from the jury and the audience. Morta's repertoire is diverse and includes works by classical and contemporary composers. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. Her recordings of Chopin's music have received critical acclaim, and her album "Chopin: 24 Preludes" was released by the Lithuanian Music Information and Publishing Centre in 2018. In addition to her career as a performer, Morta is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught piano at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts, and she has given masterclasses in Lithuania, Italy, and Spain.
