Ritva Auvinen is a Finnish classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a pianist and composer. Born in Helsinki in 1960, Auvinen showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. She went on to study at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where she received her degree in piano performance. Auvinen's career as a performer began in the 1980s, when she started giving recitals and performing with orchestras in Finland and abroad. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile pianist, with a particular affinity for the music of Finnish composers such as Jean Sibelius and Einojuhani Rautavaara. One of the highlights of Auvinen's early career was her performance of Rautavaara's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987.
