Ardeo Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 in Paris, France. The quartet consists of four members: violinists Mi-Sa Yang and Anna Göckel, violist Yuko Hara, and cellist Aurélien Pascal. The ensemble has gained recognition for their dynamic performances and unique interpretations of classical music. The founding members of Ardeo Quartet met while studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. The ensemble's name, Ardeo, is derived from the Latin word for "to burn" or "to be on fire," reflecting their intense and passionate approach to music. Since their formation, Ardeo Quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. They have appeared at prestigious venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The quartet has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and cellist Gautier Capuçon. Ardeo Quartet has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 2013, they won first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan. They were also awarded the Grand Prize at the FNAPEC European Chamber Music Competition in Paris in 2014. In addition, the quartet has been recognized for their recordings, including a Diapason d'Or award for their album of Schumann's string quartets. One of the highlights of Ardeo Quartet's career was their performance at the 2018 Verbier Festival in Switzerland. They were invited to perform as part of the festival's "Discovery" series, which showcases up-and-coming musicians. The quartet's performance was praised for its energy and precision, and they received a standing ovation from the audience. Another notable performance by Ardeo Quartet was their collaboration with the Orchestre National de France in 2019. They performed Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola, and Orchestra, with Mi-Sa Yang and Yuko Hara as soloists. The performance was broadcast live on French radio and received widespread acclaim. Ardeo Quartet is known for their innovative programming, which often includes lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces. They are particularly interested in exploring the music of female composers, and have performed works by Fanny Mendelssohn, Louise Farrenc, and Lili Boulanger, among others.
