The Hamburg Philharmonic Chorus is a renowned classical music artist that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 80 years. The choir was founded in 1931 by Helmut Franz, who was a music teacher at the time. Franz had a vision of creating a choir that would be able to perform the most challenging works of classical music, and he set out to recruit the best singers in Hamburg. The choir started out with just 60 members, but it quickly grew in size and reputation. In the early years, the choir performed mainly in Hamburg, but they soon began to tour throughout Germany and Europe. The choir's first major performance was in 1934, when they performed Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, the Hamburg Philharmonic Chorus has performed with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world. They have collaborated with conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Sir Simon Rattle, and have performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of the choir's history was their performance of Verdi's Requiem in 1965. The performance was conducted by Leonard Bernstein and was recorded live. The recording has since become a classic and is considered one of the best recordings of the work. The Hamburg Philharmonic Chorus has also been recognized for their exceptional performances with numerous awards and accolades. In 1974, they were awarded the Brahms Prize by the Brahms Society of Schleswig-Holstein. In 1999, they were awarded the Echo Klassik Award for their recording of Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem. In addition to their performances and awards, the Hamburg Philharmonic Chorus has also been committed to promoting music education and supporting young musicians. They have established a scholarship program for young singers and have also organized workshops and masterclasses for aspiring musicians.
