Timofei Dokshitzer was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 13, 1921, in the city of Kharkov, Ukraine. He was a trumpeter and a conductor who was known for his virtuosity and his ability to play the most challenging pieces of music with ease. Dokshitzer was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known trumpet player in the Soviet Union. Dokshitzer began playing the trumpet at a young age, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied at the Kharkov Conservatory, where he was trained by some of the best trumpet players in the country. After completing his studies, Dokshitzer joined the Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played as the principal trumpet player. In 1941, Dokshitzer was drafted into the Soviet Army, where he served as a musician in the military band. During his time in the army, he continued to play the trumpet and even performed for the troops on the front lines. After the war, Dokshitzer returned to the Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra, where he continued to play as the principal trumpet player. Dokshitzer's career as a soloist began in the 1950s when he started performing in concerts and recitals throughout the Soviet Union. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the best trumpet players in the country, and his performances were highly praised by critics and audiences alike. In 1955, he won the first prize at the All-Union Competition of Wind and Percussion Players, which was a significant achievement for a trumpet player. Dokshitzer's international career began in the 1960s when he started performing in concerts and festivals outside of the Soviet Union. He performed in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, and Japan, where he was highly acclaimed for his virtuosity and his ability to play the most challenging pieces of music. He also performed with some of the most famous orchestras in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic. One of the highlights of Dokshitzer's career was his performance of the Trumpet Concerto by Johann Nepomuk Hummel with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in 1968. The performance was recorded and released on LP, and it became one of the most popular recordings of the concerto. Dokshitzer's interpretation of the piece was highly praised for its technical brilliance and its musicality. Dokshitzer was also a prolific recording artist, and he recorded many albums throughout his career. Some of his most famous recordings include his performances of the Trumpet Concertos by Haydn, Hummel, and Arutiunian. He also recorded many works for trumpet and piano, including pieces by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. In addition to his career as a performer, Dokshitzer was also a respected teacher and conductor. He taught at the Moscow Conservatory, where he trained many of the best trumpet players in the Soviet Union. He also conducted many orchestras, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. Dokshitzer received many awards and honors throughout his career, including the title of People's Artist of the USSR, which was the highest honor that could be bestowed upon an artist in the Soviet Union. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin, which was the highest civilian honor in the Soviet Union. Dokshitzer continued to perform and record throughout his career, and he remained an active musician until his death on July 27, 2005, in Moscow, Russia.
