Role:ConductorRobin Bowman was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Bowman showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Bowman's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking private lessons with renowned violinists and attended the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division. At the age of 16, Bowman was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with the legendary violinist, Jascha Heifetz. During her time at Curtis, Bowman won several awards and competitions, including the Philadelphia Orchestra's Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition and the Aspen Music Festival's Violin Concerto Competition. She also performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. After graduating from Curtis, Bowman continued her studies at the Juilliard School, where she earned a Master of Music degree. She also studied with Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman and participated in masterclasses with Isaac Stern and Yehudi Menuhin. Bowman's career as a soloist and chamber musician took off after she won the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Competition in 2008. The competition, which is open to violinists under the age of 32, has launched the careers of many of today's top violinists, including Midori, Pamela Frank, and Jennifer Koh. As the winner of the Naumburg Competition, Bowman was awarded a solo recital at Carnegie Hall, a recording contract with Naxos, and a tour of the United States and Europe. She also received a Stradivarius violin, which she still plays today. Since winning the Naumburg Competition, Bowman has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also given recitals at major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall. In addition to her solo career, Bowman is an active chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, and the Tokyo String Quartet. She is also a founding member of the Bowman String Quartet, which has received critical acclaim for its performances and recordings. Bowman's recordings have received widespread critical acclaim and have won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. Her recordings include works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Bartok, as well as contemporary works by living composers. In addition to her performing career, Bowman is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music. She is also a frequent guest artist and teacher at music festivals around the world. Throughout her career, Bowman has received numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, and the MacArthur Fellowship. She has also been named a United States Artists Fellow and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
