Ilse L. Herbert was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. She was born on August 2, 1897, in Vienna, Austria, to a family of musicians. Her father, Richard Herbert, was a well-known conductor, and her mother, Marie von Herbert, was a pianist. Ilse grew up in a musical environment and started playing the piano at a young age. Ilse's talent for music was evident from an early age, and she received her first piano lessons from her mother. She later studied under the tutelage of some of the most prominent pianists of her time, including Theodor Leschetizky and Artur Schnabel. She also studied composition with Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern. Ilse made her debut as a pianist in Vienna in 1914, at the age of 17. She quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and was invited to perform in concerts across Europe. In 1920, she made her debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Her performance was well-received, and she was praised for her technical skill and musicality. She also taught piano at the University of Southern California. In 1933, Ilse and Ernst fled Germany due to the rise of the Nazi regime.
