Artist Info
Frédérique Saumon is a French classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Paris in 1985, Saumon showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. She quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument, and her parents encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Saumon's early training was rigorous, and she spent many hours each day practicing under the guidance of her teachers. She was particularly drawn to the works of the Romantic composers, such as Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann, and she developed a deep understanding of their music through her studies. As she progressed in her training, Saumon began to perform in public, and she quickly gained a reputation as a gifted young pianist. In 2003, Saumon was accepted into the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Jacques Rouvier. Under Rouvier's guidance, Saumon honed her technical skills and developed a more nuanced approach to interpretation. She also began to explore a wider range of repertoire, including works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Debussy. Saumon's talent and hard work paid off in 2007, when she won first prize in the prestigious Concours International de Piano d'Epinal. This victory brought her to the attention of the international music community, and she began to receive invitations to perform in major concert halls around the world. Over the next several years, Saumon gave acclaimed performances in Europe, Asia, and North America, earning praise for her technical brilliance and emotional depth. One of Saumon's most memorable performances came in 2011, when she played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising Saumon's "dazzling technique" and "sensitive phrasing." The concert was broadcast live on television and radio, and it helped to cement Saumon's reputation as one of the most exciting young pianists of her generation. In addition to her solo performances, Saumon has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles. She has played chamber music with the Quatuor Ebène, the Modigliani Quartet, and the Trio Wanderer, among others. She has also worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Gustavo Dudamel, and Valery Gergiev. Saumon's recordings have also received critical acclaim. Her debut album, released in 2009, featured works by Chopin and Liszt, and it was praised for its "sparkling virtuosity" and "poetic sensitivity." Her subsequent recordings have included works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Debussy, as well as lesser-known composers such as Fauré and Ravel. Throughout her career, Saumon has remained committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. She has given masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and she has participated in outreach programs that bring music to underserved communities. She has also been an advocate for contemporary music, commissioning new works from composers such as Thierry Escaich and Bruno Mantovani. In recognition of her achievements, Saumon has received numerous awards and honors.More....
